Utility vehicles (UTVs), or side-by-sides (SxS), are off-road vehicles similar to but distinct from ATVs (all-terrain vehicles) in that they have separate seats arranged side by side, and in some cases can accommodate as many as six adult-sized riders, vs. a single seat where a single rider can sit behind the driver. UTVs also usually have a steering wheel, pedals, a cargo box, and other equipment that make them a better fit for multi-person rides and for work crews. Many UTV manufacturers also offer rollover protection systems (ROPS), hardtop roofs, windshields, and a cab enclosure as factory-installed options.
