Read More (About Utility UTVs)Utility vehicles, also commonly referred to as “UTVs” or “side-by-sides,” are off-road vehicles designed to boost operators’ productivity. They differ from all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in a few key ways. While UTVs have side-by-side seating and can hold as many as six passengers, ATVs situate the passenger behind the main rider and typically only hold two passengers. UTVs typically have a steering wheel, pedals, and a cargo box, which makes them well-suited for work at parks and sports facilities, golf courses, farms, ranches, and other settings. There are also models that come with such factory-equipped features as rollover protection systems (ROPS), hardtop roofs, windshields, and cab enclosures that add extra layers of safety and can turn UTVs into all-weather vehicles. Both utility UTVs and sport and recreation UTVs are designed to operate on nearly any type of terrain. Utility UTVs, however, are largely designed for work applications, while sport models are built for maximum power and performance. Utility UTVs have engines rated for around 30 to 100 horsepower (22 to 75 kilowatts); sport UTVs commonly pack a little more power, ranging from 40 to 175 HP (30 to 130 kW). Utility models also often have larger cargo boxes (some are even equipped with hydraulic tipping) and substantial towing capacity, whereas sport models prioritize heavy-duty suspensions for tackling challenging off-road rides with ease.
Larger crew cab UTVs are excellent options for work crews that need an easy way to access remote jobsites, making them a fit for landscaping, golf course maintenance, and other work. You’ll also find youth UTVs that offer a more manageable alternative to full-size UTVs and are an excellent option for kids and new riders looking for an entry point into the UTV world.
One exceptionally popular utility UTV line is the Polaris Ranger series, which includes UTVs in 2-, 3-, and 4-to-6-seat Crew configurations. The Ranger Crew XP 1000 EPS NorthStar HVAC edition features a 999-cc liquid-cooled engine that generates 82 HP (61 kW). The high-end UTV seats six and has a maximum payload capacity of 1,350 pounds (612 kilograms) and a 2,500-lb (1,134-kg) towing capacity. Ranger UTVs are also available with Polaris’ Ranger Pro Shield Cab system, equipped with heating, air conditioning, and front and rear ventilation.
