    About Progressive

Based in Seaforth, Ontario, Canada, Progressive Turf Equipment specializes in pull-behind, rotary rough and finishing mowers for golf courses, sports fields, sod farms, parks, municipal areas, and other applications.

Progressive designs, manufactures, and sells contour mowers, conventional mowers, roller mowers, and steep slope mowers. The company’s Tri Deck mowers have cutting widths of up to 36 feet (11 meters), whereas its roller mowers cut up to 29.5 ft (9 m) per pass. Several Progressive models are available with an optional bolt-on, galvanized deck shell for sandy or acidic soil conditions or areas where corrosive fertilizers are in use.

Progressive Pro-Flex 120 Rough Rotary Mower

    Terrain-Hugging Mowers & Rollers

Progressive product lines include the Groundskeeper Series for general-purpose mowing, the (Sod) Producer Series designed for cutting natural grass, and the Superintendent Series for golf course maintenance. Progressive also markets turf rollers for all of the above industries, including contour rollers and Pro Roll fairway rollers.

One example of Progressive’s products is the Pro-Flex 120 rough rotary mower. It features five floating decks, maintenance-free blade spindles, and a cutting width of 10 ft (3 m). The Pro-Flex 120 also offers Progressive’s Pro Lift-N-Turn system, which can hydraulically lift all the cutting decks off the ground temporarily without disengaging the PTO for quick lifts over obstacles, such as golf cart paths, or to help the blades start rotating more easily in tall grass.

    Remote Operation For Safety

Progressive also manufactures the Slope-Pro remote-controlled mower with rubber tracks. The Slope-Pro is designed to operate on steep inclines of up to 50 degrees, with a low center of gravity and an even weight distribution. It can also operate in potentially dangerous locations such as around interstate highways, on embankments, in areas with stinging insects or snakes, and so on.

A Slope-Pro with a 52-inch (1,321-millimeter) cutting width can trim grass to a 2.25 to 8 in. (57 to 203 mm) height. It uses a fuel-injected engine because slopes can interfere with carburetor operation. The Slope-Pro’s remote has a 300-ft (91-m) maximum operating distance.

    Progressive Milestones

Progressive got its start in 1977 when Luke Janmaat opened Luke’s Machine Shop to offer services to the local farming community. The company was originally a one-man operation; Janmaat repaired various machines and made modifications in an effort to improve their productivity and ease of use. In the following years, Luke’s Machine Shop started to manufacture its own products.

In 1989, Janmaat received a challenge to design a multi-deck rotary mower capable of making wider cuts on turf grass. He achieved that goal in 1990 by building the first-ever pull-behind rotary finishing mower, which was able to cut a swath 22 ft (6.7 m) wide using PTO power. The efficiency of that mower—multiplying the cutting width of a conventional mower on each pass—had a major impact on the turf management industry. Janmaat soon changed the name of Luke’s Machine Shop to Progressive Turf Equipment.

The company innovated in the years that followed by developing new multi-deck tow-behind mowers for use by golf course greenskeepers and professional lawn care providers, as well as three-point-hitch, single-deck, and rear-discharge mowers. Progressive also expanded its manufacturing facility and its network of dealers, reaching customers around the globe.
