    About Cub Cadet

Cub Cadet got its start as a residential lawn mower company back in 1961 when it built its first garden tractor designed specifically for suburban homeowners. Over the years, as the needs of those customers changed, the company expanded to include more types of equipment, and eventually made the move to offering professional machines as well.

    Cub Cadet Ultima ZT1 54 Zero-Turn Mower

In addition to riding, zero-turn, walk-behind, and stand-on mowers, Cub Cadet manufactures one-stage, two-stage, and three-stage snowblowers; various electric mowers and tools; and Challenger Series utility vehicles (UTVs).

    Commercial Mowers

Cub Cadet’s commercial turf mowers are designed for cut quality, efficiency, maneuverability, and dependable service. Its walk-behind offerings include the Pro HW (Hydro Walk) series of rotary mowers and the Infinicut series of reel mowers.

The Infinicut is suitable for golf courses, sports fields, and pitches. It can be powered by gasoline or battery power with a swappable, dual-drive hybrid unit. Its cutting cylinder is just one of the TMSystem cassettes available for the machine; other cassettes enable the Infinicut to perform dethatching, aerating, scarifying, brushing, grooming, and other operations.

Cub Cadet also manufactures Pro X stand-on mowers and Pro Z series zero-turn riding mowers in its commercial category. Some models can tackle steep slopes of up to 25 degrees (46% grade) with features such as dual rear tires and self-leveling seats.

Mowers with SurePath technology bring precision and efficiency to mowing large expanses of grass. SurePath is a GPS-assisted, semi-autonomous steering system that guides the mower in a straight line while minimizing overlap between stripes. The operator can turn the mower around for the next pass with the push of a button. Cub Cadet claims that SurePath’s savings of time and fuel can improve productivity by up to 12%. The technology also reduces operator fatigue and helps new employees mow like a professional in a short period of time.

    Lawn & Garden Products

In the residential and general landscaping category, Cub Cadet sells a variety of internal-combustion and electric mowers. These include the company’s XT1, XT2, and XT3 Enduro riding mowers; its Ultima Series ZT, ZTS, ZTX, and Z-Force SX Series zero-turn mowers; and its Signature Cut Series and Cyclocut push mowers. Cub Cadet also markets the Robomow RK Series of robotic mowers for residential lawns.

In addition, Cub Cadet offers an array of handheld and cleanup tools, including leaf blowers, handheld and wheeled string trimmers, hedge trimmers, and other cordless handheld tools.

    Cub Cadet Milestones

The first Cub Cadet lawn tractor was developed by International Harvester and released in 1961 to notable success. The 7-horsepower (5.2-kilowatt) machine filled the niche for a durable, air-cooled, compact tractor at a much lower price point than the Farmall Cub. In 1966, the manufacturer introduced a hydrostatic-drive version of the tractor, an industry first. Machine Tool & Die (MTD) acquired Cub Cadet from IH in 1981.

In 1997, Cub Cadet debuted its Z Series of zero-turn radius riding mowers. But in 2015, a rider was no longer necessary, as the Cub Cadet RG3 became the world's first robotic golf greens mower. The autonomous RG3 rolled as it mowed, earning high marks from its small base of trial users for its cut quality and labor savings. Cub Cadet moved further into the professional turf care space in 2016 with the advent of its Pro Z Series of human-operated zero-turns.

Stanley Black & Decker bought a 20% stake in MTD in 2019, and purchased the remainder of the company—including Cub Cadet—two years later. Cub Cadet is headquartered in Valley City, Ohio.
