    About Golf Carts

Although they get their name from a popular sport, golf carts are used for a wide range of applications in a variety of locations outside of golf courses, including car dealerships, retirement communities, factories, amusements parks, zoos, airports, and more. While the maximum legal top speed for a golf cart is 20 mph (32 km/h), there are street-legal golf carts and similar machines called low-speed vehicles (LSVs) that can legally travel at up to 25 mph (40 km/h) on certain roads.

Street-legal golf carts require several car-like components, including headlights, turn signals, mirrors, and other features. They are ideal for people who live on or near golf courses and want to be able to drive their carts from their homes to the course without needing a separate vehicle. Laws and limits vary from state to state, so be sure to check local regulations before purchasing a golf cart you intend to drive on public roads.

    Club Car Tempo Golf Cart

For example, New Jersey state law says electric carts can only travel on roads with posted speed limits of 25 mph, whereas Texas allows them to travel on roadways with speed limits of up to 45 mph (72 km/h). Most states, however, limit street legal carts to 35-mph (56-km/h) roads.

    Types Of Golf Carts

The term “golf cart” technically applies to push and pull versions as well as “autonomous caddies,” but the two most common self-propelled golf cart types are electric and gas. People in such locations as golf courses and urban environments and communities typically favor electric golf carts because they are quiet, zero-emission vehicles. Gas-powered golf carts often have larger engines and are more powerful, but noise and emissions are a concern. For that reason, some enthusiasts purchase custom golf carts or buy kits to convert them into off-road vehicles similar to utility vehicles.

Regardless of type, golf carts typically seat between two and four passengers with storage space in the rear for golf clubs or other cargo, but there are some models available that sacrifice rear storage for two or more extra seats. Golf carts may come with or without a canopy, and some models feature cargo boxes that make them ideal for golf management tasks with plenty of space for carrying buckets of balls, turf maintenance equipment, and more.

    Find The Right Golf Cart

NeedTurfEquipment.com has a large selection of new and used golf carts for sale from Club Car, Cushman, E-Z-GO, Yamaha, and many other brands. Club Car is a major golf cart manufacturer with models dedicated to fleets, turf maintenance, mobile merchandising, and more. Popular models include the Carryall, Precedent I2, and Tempo.

The Tempo, for example, is available with a 3.3-horsepower (2.5-kilowatt) electric motor or a 14-hp (10.4-kW) 429cc Kohler gas engine with a 6-gallon (22.7-liter) fuel capacity. Both models have top speeds of 15 mph (24 km/h), turning radii of 17 feet, 4 inches (5.28 meters), and ground clearances of 4.5 in (11.4 centimeters). While both models have 65.5-in (166.4-cm) wheelbases, the electric model weighs 903 pounds (410 kilograms), while the gas-powered version is lighter at 642 lbs (291 kg). There are also several accessories available for the Tempo, including ball and club cleaners, coolers, and more.
