UM-7942 Direct seeding machine 2.5 m, 6 cm row spacing An efficient seed drill for renewing existing grass crops without prior tillage. Available in widths from 1.5 to 3 meters. The seed drill is excellent for repairing and renewing ordinary meadows that are in poor condition. The same applies when larger patches of meadows have been damaged by ice fire or flooding. Equally relevant for agriculture as for sports fields, golf courses and public green spaces. Practical use in agriculture On surface-cultivated pastures, it is difficult to use any form of tillage. Here, it is ideal to use a direct seed drill. If there is solid rock just below the turf, this does not matter. The spring-loaded seeding skids oscillate freely and “ride” easily over such obstacles. The seed drill is also well suited for sowing special seed varieties in existing crops, for example clover in a clover-poor meadow. And it is well suited for sowing herbs and other green production (organic farming.) Golf courses, sports fields and other green areas The direct seed drill has proven to be an excellent seed drill for maintaining sports fields, golf courses and parks. The fact that the seeding skis with the knives underneath create seed grooves without throwing up soil and roots makes the machine ideal for such purposes. We have sown in the fairway on several golf courses, and golf has been played soon after sowing. Since larger quantities of seed are often used per day for the improvement of sports fields and golf courses than are used on a normal agricultural bed, it may be necessary to cross-sow, i.e. sow twice and then the last time at the cross of the first sowing direction. We supply a special seeding ski for golf courses and sports seeding fields. This is designed based on our experience with sowing on golf courses A seed drill with a special coulter system The special thing about this direct seed drill is that it has coulters that are designed as a short steel ski with adjustable ground pressure. The pressure against the ground is adjusted from 10 kg and upwards per coulter by means of a pressure spring on each suspension arm and hydraulic depth wheels that are standard equipment on all machines. Two longitudinal grooves are cut in each ski. A hardened steel knife is located at the front of each groove and can be adjusted up or down to cut seed grooves for the desired sowing depth. The seed outlet is located at the rear of the grooves in the ski, and the seed is dropped straight into the grooves that the knives cut. This coulter system has proven to be better than both regular coulters and rotating roller coulters. A steel ski with two slanted knives underneath, which slide on the ground under pressure, will cut two clean grooves without throwing up soil and grass residues. The machine is available in 4 working widths from 1.5 m to 3.0 m. The UM7900 has 21 seeding skids with a total of 42 knives, which gives 42 rows with 6 cm spacing. This machine has a working width of 2.5 m. The UM7950 has 25 seeding skids with 50 knives, which gives 50 rows at a working width of 3.0 m. Otherwise, the 4 machines are completely identical. Sowing unit The machine is equipped with 1 seed box with roller discharge. Each seed box has 26, 34, 42 or 50 outlets (1.5, 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0 m machine). The seed rate is centrally adjusted steplessly from 0 up to 50 kg/ha (5 kg/da). (As the specific weight of seeds varies quite a lot, it is recommended to calibrate the seed rate setting before sowing starts) Seeding speed – capacity For seeding units with a sliding groove roller, the amount of seed delivered depends on both how much of the groove roller is pushed into the seeding unit and how fast the roller rotates. However, if the roller rotates too fast, the roller starts to “cheat” because it rotates so fast that the seed does not fully fill the delivery grooves in the rollers. The seeding rollers are driven via a chain by a land wheel and it is not recommended to sow at a speed higher than 6-7 km/h, which corresponds to 15 –17.5 da/h for a 2.5 m machine and 18 –21 da/h for a 3.0 m machine. What types of seeds can be sown? The machine can sow all types of grass seed and most herb seeds. The seed size limits its use. Regular grain seed is too large for the seeding rollers in the machine.
