John Deere Adds One-Touch MulchControl Feature To Select Mowers

Mulching grass clippings is a healthy practice that promotes lawn growth, but there are a few good reasons why homeowners opt to bag or discharge grass clippings instead. For example, if grass is too tall, thick, or wet, clippings can clump together and prevent sunlight and water from reaching the grass. On the other hand, side discharge isn’t ideal when mowing near driveways, landscaping beds, and other areas where you would need to clean up clippings after mowing. John Deere’s new One-Touch MulchControl system lets operators switch between mulching and side-discharge modes without stopping the mower.

To Mulch Or Not To Mulch

John Deere mowers equipped with the MulchControl attachment feature a heavy-duty baffle that remains closed in mulch mode; in this configuration, clippings remain in the deck and are chopped into fine mulch and left on the lawn. With the press of a button, however, operators can open the baffle, allowing clippings to either exit via the discharge chute or go into a material collection system if one is equipped. One-Touch MulchControl will initially be available on Accel Deep mower decks for the John Deere X300 and X500 Select Series Tractors.

It's Not Complicated

You’ll engage the mode you want by pressing a single button on the tractor’s console. "When we asked how we could make lawn care even more convenient and easy for our customers, we thought, 'what's easier than a push of a button?'" says Mark Waldvogel, product marketing manager for John Deere. "Operators can go from mulching to side-discharge mowing without interruption—allowing operators to attain a beautiful and healthy lawn faster.”
